My Decision

At the end of 2008 I was not impressed with my state of health nor physical condition - so not feeling too great about myself I knew that something had to change drastically.

I am a Project and Development Manager for a family owned business that has been running successfully for 11 years and I have a vested interest in the business, I am sure we all know that when you work for yourself time becomes irrelevant in terms of work and one tends to end up never having time to do anything but work.

I reflected a bit on a conundrum "be happy with who you are and accept it". For many years I thought this was acceptable and that life whizzes by irrespective of who we are and what we look like.

Many people accept this and carry on accepting it - not understanding what the consequences are likely to be. Those of you out there that believe this "are wrong".

Let me put this to you . . .

One bright morning you wake up as usual but are not feeling so great, a slight pain in the chest and a little dizzy, you decide to go see the doctor and doctor says you need to go for some tests - at that stage you feel a bit worried as this sounds serious. Well off you go have the tests done and four days later you walk into the doctors rooms to get the results. Doc sits you down and says "Adrian your cholesterol is through the roof and your heart is taking serious strain. Your blood pressure is too high and your health is not what it should be".

But don't worry go on like you are "be happy with who you are and accept it" - is this correct, I think not. Why do we have to "be happy with who we are and accept it" when we are actually not. Why is it that we tend to wait until everything around us starts falling apart before we take action?

I realised this and took action, making this decision has changed me in more ways than you will ever know. It has given me a new lease on life and has taught me so many lessons. Making time for me, I am not talking about me in the "singular"- I am talking about a long term reward for those that love me - those that will miss me when I am gone. Don't be selfish it's not always about you; it's about those around you, those that look up to, and at you - and want you to be around for a long time - see you live to a ripe old age.

Look, what I am saying is that wanting the perfect body at 39 years of age was NOT the sole reason I decided to do the USN Body & Lifestyle Challenge, - definitely one of the many reasons - what I am saying is that the decision taken encompassed not one but one of many goals. This made the rewards (note rewards) so much more challenging and the desire to achieve the goals set so much easier.

One of the other reasons was my children, our eating habits were not conducive to a healthy life style, I am sure we can all relate to this "quick, easy and convenient style". This is not the answer, we sit cooped up all day in our little offices and our children come home to TV and four walls.

Diet and exercise is imperative in solving our growing obesity problems, this problem is not just a local one but a global one. As parents we have a responsibility to teach our children the correct way and I was not doing this.

Today when looking back to the date on which I made the life changing decision - some nine months ago - I can honestly say - "what a change, what a difference, and it was and continues to be worth every ounce of effort".

To those of you reading the account of my transformation, you must have the same feelings otherwise you would not be exploring this website. Be encouraged, you too can - if you are truly committed to yourself, your family and loved ones - undergo a similar transformation.

Believe me it's worth it, and with a team like USN behind you every step of the way you can't go wrong...
