An Eating Plan Analysed

As a starter I would like to pose the question: What is a "DIET"? - Your answer would no doubt be: Eating unappetising foods that make you lose weight. Right? WRONG!!!

Let's take another scenario, you are relaxing in front of your television on a Sunday afternoon looking at Nat Geo Wild and there is a programme on about "e.g. leaf cutter ants" The narrator says "the diet of these hard working little creatures consists of" and then lists what they eat. Does this mean that the ant's goal is to lose weight? I don't think so.

Now let's look at the definition of "DIET" as described in a Medical Encyclopedia:

diet /di-et/ (di'it) the customary amount and kind of food and drink taken by a person from day to day; a diet planned to meet specific requirements of the individual, including or excluding certain foods. di'etary

Ok now what do we understand from this? Simply that you need to structure an eating plan to achieve our specific goals. This means you are making a decision as to what you want to achieve from doing the USN Body & Lifestyle Challenge, and USN has it right, note what they call a diet, "An Eating Plan".

What I said in the My Strategy segment of the website I am going to say again. "80% of what you achieve will be determined by your diet and supplemental usage" and "if you are not going to commit to this you are not going to achieve your goal"!!!

Now, for you to understand my strategy and measurements a little better I need to explain a few things so that you get the entire picture.

What follows is but a basic description and is purely intended to give you a rough idea as to the fundamental break down of our food intake within our daily lives.

To function the body requires three main macronutrients in relatively large amounts; so let's have a look at these:

Protein, Carbohydrates, Fats.

A person requires a certain amount of calories per day to function, and these calories come from all three of the main macronutrients listed above. However, they need to be in a balanced ratio depending on your specific goal.

USN provides us with the average amount of calorie intake per day depending on your activity level as well as gender. This is available on the USN Body & Lifestyle Challenge (nutrition) web site as well as in the passport that comes with the Transformation pack.

From what we understand from the listed macronutrients and what we envisage as our goal, we can then look at our eating plan. - Goal: Lean muscle gain Example

One thing you must understand though, and that is that the above example is but a small part of the dynamics in structuring an eating plan, which is a complex formula that comprises not just the three main macronutrients, but balancing all factors within the macronutrients as well as looking at correctly stacking supplemental usage and vitamins as a foundation to a successful eating plan.

One also needs to keep in mind that the correct weight training and cardio vascular programme is vital to achieve optimal results.

This is an example of how I structured my eating plan just to give you an idea as to how complex this can become. Click here for an example of my eating plan.

This is why we have professional people doing this for us.

The USN Body & Lifestyle Challenge team has done all this ground work for you. You can access the different eating plans ("DIETS") on www.usnchallenge.co.za. They are also available in the USN Body & Lifestyle Challenge passport that comes in the Transformation pack.

Remember the team at USN have the experience and knowledge to provide the best possible information pertaining to achieving results. Their programmes are specific, balanced and they have the results to prove it.

I hope that I have given you a little more insight as to how to choose a "DIET". Remember it is a structured plan as to how to attain your goal and not just eating lettuce leaves and drinking lemon infused water in a vain attempt to do so.

Good luck and stick to your plan.
